McMenamins Billy Rye Whiskey

$159.99

Whiskey: McMenamins Billy Rye
This limited-release whiskey was aged four years in 53-gallon American oak barrels, lending extra depth and complexity to its close relative, Billy Whiskey. The palate reaches new heights of flavor and aroma, playing on the rich molasses and oak. The finish is long and spicy, reflecting smooth bends and curves of the century-old alambic still of its origin.

Size: 750ML
Proof: 100 (50% ABV)
Origin: United States
Distillery: McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Distillery
Bottled at 100 proof and being at least 4-years-old, it is interesting to note that Billy Rye is NOT a bonded whiskey. Usually when a whiskey meets both of these criteria (two of the five necessary distinctions for bonded whiskey), distilleries will often go through the bonded process to raise the whiskey’s perceived value. Regardless, with the four-year age statement proudly emblazoned on the front of the bottle, it safe to assume this whiskey holds a fair amount of flavor.
McMenamins Billy Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Definitely cooked grain. An inherent oaky-ness is offset by a sweet, rum-like quality that contains quintessential rye spice.
Palate: Baked apples and rye spice hits quick and upfront, then fades to sweet before circling back spicy on the finish.
Finish: The finish is long and spicy, reflecting smooth bends and curves of the century-old alambic still of its origin.
Distillery Information
Explore the former granary barn constructed by the Imbrie family in the 1850s, and known today as one of two McMenamins’ distilleries. Its crowning glory is a century-old, 160-gallon Alambic Charentais pot still. It once sat in an old barn in Cognac, France, and came here in 2011. This copper beauty sits atop bricks recycled from Edgefield, Kennedy School and the Crystal Hotel. The first spirit released from this distillery was White Owl Whiskey, and the creativity and craft continues today with new releases.
