This expression takes its name from Douglas Hyde, who served as the first President of Ireland from 1938 to 1945. The whiskey comes from one Irish distillery (as we said, it’s a single malt) and which was initially matured in bourbon barrels before enjoying a finishing period in first fill Oloroso Sherry casks. It’s bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration. A release of 5,000 bottles.Hyde No. 1 Presidents Cask 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish Single Malt Irish Whiskey Tasting NotesNose: Lots of juicy fruit aromas, with hints of boiled sweet and pear drops. There’s also a woody note, similar to pencil shavings and workshops then some spice and cola notes.Palate: Mouth-filling and viscous. Lots of juicy fruit to start with then evolves into dried vine fruits, dates and caramel flavours.Finish: Some warm, spicy oak adds a peppery note, which persists to the finish.Distillery InformationHibernia Distillers was founded by brothers Conor and Alan Hyde of Hyde Whiskey, in 2014. Currently based in West Cork, this new operation is not a distillery, but a bottler of Spirits. They have released several expressions.
