The barbet column still was brought to Diplomático’s La Miel distillery in 1959. This continuous distillation system is originally from France. The barbet rum is produced from sugar cane molasses and aged in American white oak barrels, that previously served to age bourbon and whisky, for 4 years.
It reveals tropical fruit aromas and toasted oak notes, providing a distinctive and well-balanced bouquet. Slightly dry on the palate with delicate wood and fresh citrus fruit flavors that combine for a pleasant, long-lasting finish.

Alongside the No1, the rum was meant to showcase the wide variety of expressions the distillery can produce starting with a lighter, spicier rum crafted using a Barbet column still imported from France. Distilled from high-quality Venezuelan sugar cane molasses, the rum is aged in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels for 4 years to create a taste profile that is perfect for both sipping and cocktail mixing.

Nose: On the nose, the rum conveys a complex aroma of candied mango, banana, cream puff, butterscotch, cinnamon, and tobacco with a subtle hint of floral notes.
Palate: This is complemented sweet, spicy, and savory palate of baking spices, honey, beef jerky, marzipan, charred oak, and lime leaf with peppery undertones.
Finish: A pleasing and persistent finish.

Located at the foot of the Andes Mountains, Destilerias Unidas S.A. is a privately-owned Venezuelan distillery famed for producing the famed Diplomatico rum range. Originally established by a group of local rum producers in partnership with Canadian spirits group Seagram’s, the company was acquired by a group of Venezuelan entrepreneurs who saw its potential of both the company and its premium brand of rum turning it into a distillery that not only made premium rum but also one that showcased the skill of Venezuelan craftsmen.
