This Kentucky Rye consists of a four-year-old rye which then sees an additional seven years in newly charred quarter-cask oak barrels. This re-barreled rye then gets blended with straight rye whiskey to create Basil Hayden’s first “limited edition” offering.

Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon has always been proud of its spicy finish, which comes from using twice as much rye as traditional bourbons. The challenges rye presents inspired us to create a very limited release BASIL HAYDEN’S® Rye Whiskey. It’s the spicy taste Whiskey aficionados have come to expect from Basil Hayden’s, and a little more. To build depth into the final Rye Whiskey, They used a small amount of “re-barreled” rye.
Basil Hayden’s Rye Whiskey | Exclusive Release Tasting Notes
Nose: Warm baking spices and caramel with hints of wood and rye spice.
Palate: On the palate, charred oak is complemented by sweet brown sugar, a touch of black pepper, and dried fruit for balance.
Finish: The finish is smoky with char notes wrapped in caramel.
Distillery Information
Alberta Distillers Ltd. has since grown into one of Canada’s premiere rye producers — despite the company’s growth, however, the distillery’s local roots are still evident today. Most of the rye grains used by Alberta Distillers is sourced from farmers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with the farmers still delivering the grains personally by truck.
