Launched October 2017, Dark Rye is a new permanent addition to the Basil Hayden’s lineup. It is a blend of Kentucky straight rye, Canadian rye from Alberta Distillery, and California port-style wine. This is listed as a “whiskey specialty” so not a true rye whiskey as such. It is bottled at 40% ABV and available nationwide.

Nose: Opulent oaky notes with dark berries and molasses.
Palate: Complex blend of caramel, dried fruit, and oak, with hints of spice.
Finish: Lingering dry finish with sweet fruit and rye spice aftertaste.
Distillery Information
Alberta Distillers Ltd. has since grown into one of Canada’s premiere rye producers — despite the company’s growth, however, the distillery’s local roots are still evident today. Most of the rye grains used by Alberta Distillers is sourced from farmers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with the farmers still delivering the grains personally by truck.
